Car Photography - It’s All About the Angles
One of the most important car photography skills is knowing which angle to shoot from. This video shows you the top five angles I've used since the late '80s, shooting for car magazines, manufacturers, and clients.

Justifying the $8k Hasselblad X2D | Owner Review
Переглядів 37 тис.21 день тому
The Hasselblad X2D 100C is a genuine 'grail' camera, and with a price of USD$8,000 for the body alone, it should be. But after using a Canon R5 for the last few years, I found it easy to justify switching to the X2D - and it wasn't the 102 MP sensor that swayed me. Is the Toyota GR86 (or the Subaru BRZ) a half-price Porsche? That’s what I wanted to know when a generous viewer recently let me take his GR86 for a drive in the mountains. In the end, for me, it comes down to cost. I can swing a brand new MX-5 but even a used Boxster in my area is significantly more expensive, and a new one is not even something I think about. The MX-5 isn't the best car but she is one hell of a lot of "bang for your buck" for the common man wanting a convertible sports car that isn't too old.

      I agree 100%. I was fortunate that I had three cars I could sell for a profit (thanks to crazy COVID used car prices), so the planets aligned for me to scratch this itch. I still look at every MX5 with great affection.

    After I edited almost 3k iPhone photos, you say the true - 4:34 Photographers recommend 35mm for the start but I think 35mm should be used as ultra wide lens (20mm and less) because it is still wide angle. Ultra wide lens should be used for buildings, swag portraits (from down perspective) or generally putting some swag into the photo. I've seen tones of photos from POV's videos and 85mm looks cinematic, 50mm is a kind of balance but sometimes it doesn't look natural and don't know why. 120mm starts to become more popular lens. I've seen for example on North Borders channel. Most of his photos on last videos are taken by 100mm~ Bigger mm gives a something mysterious, deep effect, you see the one object that is interesting. I never used true camera but I compare it to zoom in iPhones 1x 24mm 2x 48mm (I call it 50mm) 3x 77mm (85mm) 5x 120mm Photographers say" buy a normal camera". They are right but from my 3k photos I can find maybe 200 or more that really looks like they were taken by 5000$ camera. I noticed the only difference between normal camera and iPhone is: - objects has slightly different look on iPhone (48mm) and camera (50mm). - there is a deep effect - more details on people's faces. That's all from me. Amazing video man!

    Great video, I'm watching this because I have the RF24-105, I then added the EF70-200II, now I'm thinking the 24-105 doesn't quite do enough, that faster aperture of the 24-70 would be so much more useful that going to 105 since I have that, and more, covered by the 70-200. The 105 has been a fantastic lense and I would highly recommended it to someone picking up a camera and a single lense as part of a kit, but like you said, when you add to your collection, even just a little bit, the 24-70 just starts to make much more sense very quickly. And an edit just to say you gained a subsciber. Really nicely put together video with great images 👍

All wonderful vehicles from the glory days of Corvette racing here in the States. Traded the 2015 in 2023 for a BMW X5 M60i. I thought that I, at age 75, had moved past two seater sports cars. Wrong. By December of last year, and with the Porsche Boxer high on my list of possibles, my BMW Z4 M40i arrived. Great car with performance metrics equal to the 2015 Stingray, only quicker, more agile, and all the while feeling more planted. Love the Z4 M40i. Thanks, old boy. I've been doing a lot of thinking about this little channel over the last few months, and I realise I need to lean into this topic a lot more. After all, not many people on UA-cam will have photographed the iconic 80s cars when they were first launched - like the F40, R32, E34 M5, NSX, LS400, MX5, 964, SL500, RX7 Turbo, Supra, Diablo, and more. I love cars, and I love landscapes, so driving and photographing cars in the landscape will likely be my thing from here on. Except when there's no car to shoot, them I'll be very happy shooting the landscape on it's own. I'm really pleased to see you making decent headway, now. I honestly believe your channel can become one of the premiere US-based landscape photography channels over the next few years, and compete with the guys from the UK. You've definitely improved your storytelling, presenting and editing skills significantly over the last year.👍

    I have a PDK 992 and a 6MT 982 in the garage and 9 out of 10 times reach for the Cayman keys over the 911 unless I’m taking it to a track day. The Cayman is just more enjoyable on public roads; largely because of the manual transmission, but also because of the size and feel. The 911 on the other hand is unbelievably good on the track, but I still often choose the Cayman for track days since it asks more out of me as a driver.

    Thanks Peter, will give these a try. I for one am glad you made it down safely! 😊 Any tips on shooting cars at a car show, when they are parked close together?

    • @PETERFRITZPHOTO
      @PETERFRITZPHOTO 6 днів тому

      Fun times, for sure! Car shows are really hard for three reasons: car placement, lighting, and obstructions (people). If you can figure out a way to get access with the press (before the general public), that can help with the last issue, but the rest is tough. If you can appeal to the organisers, you might also be able to see the cars as they’re delivered and set up in the venue, which usually happens a day or two before the opening. If you publish your images anywhere in the media, that certainly will help with credibility.

    I just received my copy of this lens a couple of days ago. It performs very well. A really nice surprise is that not only does Lightroom have a correction file, Adobe has released a version 2 of their correction file. As for low light, I am looking forward to trying this lens out inside with low light. One thing that I find helps with cranking up the ISO is to turn off the viewfinder preview, and then rely on your metering. The autofocus locks on really well, even with lower lighting levels.

    One of the worst thing I ever did was to play with an X2D, love at first click I'm stuck with my larger format Fujifilm's but the experiance with one of those compared to a modern mirrorless R5 is so tactile and evocative.

    Hi Peter, question here - my steering wheel has the sport and sport plus light indicator - by changing the wheel - Doesn't the fact that the new steering wheel doesn't have Sport and Sport Plus LEDs cause errors in the electronic system, instrument panel and in obd2 diagnostic?

    • @PETERFRITZPHOTO
      @PETERFRITZPHOTO 7 днів тому

      Hi Paulo. My factory wheel had the same lights. Installing this wheel created no such errors. My car has also been back to Porsche for a service since the wheel was installed, and no error codes were recorded.

    just watched a video from garagetimeautoresto and thought of Mr Fritz. It’s about a toyota and older 911 and the joys of NOT chasing the latest drag strip times and bar bragging rights. A kind of maturity position although i’m not sure that’s how the poster intended it. Anyway, i recommended he watch your content as it’s touched my heart as does your content. Keep it coming, it makes a difference and changes lives ❤

    Which is better Fujifilm GFX 100S II vs x2d?

    • @PETERFRITZPHOTO
      @PETERFRITZPHOTO 8 днів тому

      I haven't used the GFX system, but those who've used it prefer the colour science and industrial design of the X2D. The GFX system is definitely better for faster shooting. Plus, if video is essential to your work, the X2D won't serve you.

    Why is this system better than Sony A7RV and G master lens ?

    • @PETERFRITZPHOTO
      @PETERFRITZPHOTO 8 днів тому

      That depends on your use case. I explain in the video why I've decided it's better - for me - than my R5.
